Late/Absence Procedures

One of the most important things affecting a child's progress at school is regular attendance. For a child to gain most benefit from education, it is vital that parents work in partnership with the school to encourage good attendance and punctuality.

The doors open at 8:50am.  Please make sure your child is in school and ready to learn for when the second bell goes at 9:00am.

ABSENCE

We have a legal obligation to record and explain a child’s absence from school.

IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT FROM SCHOOL PLEASE TELEPHONE  BY 8.30 am ON THE FIRST DAY OF ABSENCE TO AVOID US CONTACTING YOU.

If children have medical or dental appointments during school time, please inform us in advance. We will ask to see the appointment card / letter.

For security reasons, please come to the main door (by the School’s office) and ring the bell when you collect your child from school for appointments during the school day.

Punctuality/lateness

Pupils who are consistently late are disrupting not only their own education but also that of other children in their class. Where persistent lateness gives cause for concern, further action may be taken.

Every second counts:

  • 5 minutes late each day means three whole days of education lost each year
  • attendance affects learning
  • attendance affects future outcomes
  • attendance affects well being and a sense of belonging
