Music

INTENT

To ensure all pupils:

  • are taught balanced, diverse music lessons that are informed by national curriculum aims.
  • are provided with high-quality teaching and learning opportunities.
  • are given the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular music activities.
  • build confidence, positive attitudes and enthusiasm towards all different aspects of music.

IMPLEMENTATION

Throughout our school, children will be engaging in the ‘Charanga Music School’ scheme of work which supports all of the requirements of the National Curriculum and gives children access to a wide range of musical concepts and experiences. Children will be building and progressing their music skills as they move through school from Nursery to Year 2, which will aim to support the whole child and increase enjoyment of musical learning.

Children have the opportunity to listen to a great variety of music styles and make links to what they have already learned. Children have opportunities to take part in wider curriculum music opportunities such as drumming workshops, linked to themed events and are offered the opportunity to participate in weekly recorder lessons held on Tuesday lunchtimes, as well as regular weekly drumming sessions.

The Charanga Music scheme gives our children the opportunity to develop foundational knowledge in music which will continue to develop as they transition into the Junior school. (As shown on the progression map below.)
