Allegations Against Staff and Volunteers
A person's behaviour, at work or home or online, may cause concerns about their suitability to work or volunteer with children or young people.
An allegation or concern that any person who works or volunteers with children, in connection with their employment, (including supply staff) or voluntary activity may cover one or more of the following categories; They may have:
- Behaved in a way that has harmed a child, or may have harmed a child;
- Possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child;
- Behaved towards a child or children in a way that indicates he or she may pose a risk of harm to children; or
- Behaved or may have behaved in a way that indicates they may not be suitable to work with children. (The last bullet point includes behaviour that may have happened outside an organisation that might make an individual unsuitable to work with children, this is known as transferable risk).
What happens when an allegation is made?
When an allegation is made against anyone working or volunteering with children, the Allegations Against Staff, Carers and Volunteers procedure in the Derby and Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Procedures must be followed.
To support decision making Derby City has developed a LADO Threshold assessment toolkit and a film about the new toolkit. There is a new Derby LADO advice form (tier 1) which should be used to request advice and information.
If there are concerns about allegations which fit the above criteria, the Manager should immediately complete the Derby and Derbyshire LADO form (located in the DDSCP documents library) and email securely to the email addresses below for the attention of LADO. The duty LADO will respond to written referrals:
Derby City to CPMduty@derby.gov.uk
Derbyshire County to professional.allegations@derbyshire.gov.uk.
Online Safety & Filtering/Monitoring Statement
At Ashbrook Infant and Nursery School, we are committed to keeping every child safe when using digital technology. Our approach to online safety is fully aligned with the statutory requirements set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025, which places clear responsibilities on schools to ensure robust online safety education, effective filtering and monitoring systems, and strong leadership oversight of digital safeguarding. [ashbrookschool.co.uk]
Filtering and Monitoring
We use age‑appropriate, secure filtering and monitoring systems that help protect pupils from harmful or inappropriate online content, including risks such as online abuse, exploitation, extremism, misinformation/disinformation, and other online harms highlighted in KCSIE 2025. [ashbrookin...sery.co.uk]
Our systems:
- Block access to harmful or inappropriate websites and platforms.
- Monitor online activity on school devices and networks to alert us to emerging risks.
- Are reviewed regularly by our Senior Leadership Team and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in line with KCSIE 2025 expectations for governing bodies and leaders to actively oversee digital safeguarding arrangements. [ashbrookschool.co.uk]
We work with our technical providers to ensure filtering is effective, age‑appropriate, and updated in response to new and emerging risks.
Roles and Responsibilities
Our Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) oversees the school’s online safety arrangements, including the effectiveness of filtering and monitoring. This reflects KCSIE 2025 guidance on DSL responsibilities and safeguarding leadership expectations.
The DSL team reviews filtering and monitoring reports and takes action where concerns are identified. Staff receive training and regular safeguarding updates, including online safety, as required by KCSIE 2025.
Teaching Children How to Stay Safe Online
Online safety is embedded across our curriculum, reflecting KCSIE’s emphasis on educating pupils about online risks and safe behaviours. Children are taught to:
- Recognise unsafe content and behaviour.
- Understand what to do if something online makes them feel worried or uncomfortable.
- Use technology responsibly and respectfully.
This equips pupils with age‑appropriate digital literacy and supports their understanding of staying safe online.
Working with Parents and Carers
KCSIE highlights the importance of working with parents to reinforce online safety.
We regularly share advice, guides and updates to help families support safe technology use at home. Parents are encouraged to contact the school if they need guidance or have concerns about their child’s online activity. Office@ashbrook-inf.derbyshire.sch.uk
Responding to Online Concerns
Any concerns about online behaviour or online harm—whether occurring in or out of school—should be reported to our Safeguarding Team. These concerns are managed in line with our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, which reflects current national and local safeguarding procedures.
